Whilst we provide
the best of accomodation and service to our clients, we truly appreciate
that our most fulfilled customers are those that have been able to soak
up the unique tranquility and beauty of Northumberland. Please follow the
following section to discover some of the more well-known attractions of
this unique area.
|
| Lindisfarne |
|
|
| In the 7th Century, it
was St Aidan who first travelled from the island of Iona to
found the island's first community - and later, under St Cuthbert,
Lindisfarne developed into an unparalleled centre of spritual
and intellectual life. Whilst the romantic ruins of the Lindisfarne
Priory are most noteworthy for their majestic 'rainbow' arches,
the isolated castle is atmostperic against the backdrop of the
Northumbrian coastline with sweeping bays and small fishing
and farming communities. |
| |
|
The best place for a visit to Lindisfarne
starts with the island itself - only accessible by causeway
at Low Tide. Other places to stay which allow good access to
the island are the coastal towns of Bamburgh, Seahouses and
and Beadnell. Please indicate your preference on your enquiry.

Towers on or near to the North East Northumberland coast. |

Standing
proud over the frequently pitched Border wars of the 14th
to 16th Centuries, Northumberand now has the most densly
populated collection of castles and fortified buildings
in Britain. |

will be pleased to provide advice on where to go and what
to see with any booking through Northumberland-Short-Breaks. |
Over 2000 years of conflict can be traced
through the landmarks and castles of Northumberland -
from Hadrian's wall at the turn of the first millennium
through the 16th Century castles as here. |

Hadrians Wall
To tour Hadrians Wall, stay in or near Hexham, Corbridge
or Haltwhistle, all within 25 miles of Newcastle. Make sure
you visit Housesteads National Heritage Site to see the excavation
of the ancient Roman Fort. Please use the map below for further
details on how to get about
|
 |
Hadrians
Wall, originally running 80 miles Coast-to-Coast from Bowness-on-Solway
in the West to Wallsend in the East. Commissioned by the Roman
emperor Hadrian in the first century AD, the wall provided a
secure frontier for the advancing Roman army into Scotland.
Running every 15 or 16 miles along the wall were small forts
and garrisons which have now been excavated and provide a wonderful
insight into military life in Britain at that time. |
